Why This Transformation Plan?
Because the world needs a comprehensive and complete plan to ensure that climate change solutions get accepted and implemented in a timely manner, so we have plenty of renewable energy and keep temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius. We basically have run out of time. We have 30 years to make it or break it. We desperately need a transformation plan of the type described on this website and the accompanying Book. Without that we will not make it!
Why the Book?
The book presents a detailed description which will serve as a handy reference for details of the plan and the different aspects of the transformation. The book also presents a detailed strategy for implementation as well as the background to help better understand different areas and the whole strategy. Those seeking to educate and convince themselves, or are interested in implementing some or all of the plan and strategy should read the book.
Why Now?
Because we have simply run out of time. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has told us that in order to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, we have to keep the global average temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius. To do this, we have to have carbon dioxide emissions down to zero and other greenhouse gas emissions greatly reduced by 2050.
Why me?
Because I have enough background in all the areas and enough understanding to be able to conceive of the plan for Transformation. Over the years, I have experience in some of the areas. Also, I have the motivation to be able to work with all the needed parties and communicate with everyone, as needed, in order to have something like the proposed transformation plan accepted and implemented.
How is it different?
The transformation we are proposing is quantitative and time bound in order to keep the global temperature rise at or below 1.5 degrees Celsius. It describes quantitatively what is needed, and then describes in detail a strategy of what, when and how. It proposes a way of having plenty of renewable energy for all our global expanding energy needs (conservation and energy efficiency are significant, but there is no talk of being inadequate for our economic needs), makes bold proposals to expand major global ecosystems as carbon sinks (that make a first major step towards restoring biodiversity and stem the massive extinction of species that is occurring), meets carbon emission requirements by essentially replacing fossil fuels, and deals with all other aspects such as disaster management, transformation of agriculture, addresses the jobs, economy, just transition and energy democracy aspects, and the describes the global organizational and funding strategy to implement the plan. There is no other plan or proposal that does all that.
Then, it not only defines a Global Green New Deal (GND), but also shows how both the US and the Global Green New Deals can be implemented. There is no other proposal that comes close to doing all of that.
Other proposals for climate solutions are of one of the following types: make qualitative suggestions and suggest directions, provide good quantitative reference information but do not say what will be done when, make quantitative proposals or projections but are not designed to meet the temperature rise goals or do not say what needs to be done by when and how, or are very good in a particular area but not comprehensive. They are good efforts in the direction of solutions and each provides some value, but are not comprehensive and are mostly quantitatively inadequate. All of these are described in the book and compared with this proposed transformation plan.
What is Our Call to Action?
Read, understand, convince yourself, support and then activate yourself!
Replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy has to be at the core of what you do. While it is good if your primary effort is in forests, coastal ecosystems or agriculture, globally, this needs to be an important supplement, as it is in our recommended transformation and in the book, but without replacing fossil fuels we will not get there!
While the plan will certainly be modified as we go along considering the good ideas of others, and the website will be used to facilitate this process, I am asking you to support the process, first by talking it up at every opportunity you get, distributing the information on social media that you have access to, distributing the free copies of all the literature provided on the website to everyone you know, and begin to change all of the dialogues to make sure what is done locally meets the needs of the global mobilization. This call to action is described in detail in the book.
While we need to continue to march locally and globally, we not only have to convince the big actors to come to the table and cooperate in defining a transformation plan of the type proposed by us, but have to change what we do ourselves by switching our energy use totally to renewables, ensure that government laws an actions help and provide incentives for this, or we have to work at restoring ecosystems, personally and with governments.
We next have to organize locally and nationally to make sure that our cities, states (or provinces), nations, and global organizations ensure that what they are doing is going to be adequate to meet the goals, and reorganize political and financial institutions provide benefits to all of us and not just to the few. The processes that come to dominate have to ensure that the technical and financial resources and infrastructures begin to be put in place to move us out of fossil fuels into the clean and beautiful “Solar Age”.
The Lamba House Plan
The photo below shows the solar system at the Lamba house. This produces more electricity than the house consumes!! Basically, the Lamba plan is to do exactly what is being proposed on this website and in the book - electrify everything and run it only on renewable energy on a net basis while being connected to the grid!
